VTCT to launch infection prevention qualifications
On 10 June 2020 assessment and awarding body VTCT will be launching a series of six Level 2 Awards in Infection Prevention (COVID-19), starting with the award for Hairdressing and Barbering Services. They will be regulated qualifications and will become a prerequisite on all VTCT and ITEC qualifications from 1 August 2020 onward.In their statement VTCT said the qualifications were introduced: “… to help embed best practice and assist with building the confidence of our centres, learners and their clients on how to ‘return back’ safely”.
A wide variety of reference materials have been drawn upon to create these qualifications including from the World Health Organisation and national authorities from within the UK and around the world, and VTCT’s own experiences through their activities in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia where they have the seen the re-opening of businesses since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Learners will gain an understanding of safe working practices required to protect themselves and their clients, developing knowledge on the causes, transmission and effects of COVID-19, the importance of social responsibility and methods used to control transmission, e.g. correct hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
VTCT’s Chief Executive states: “We take our responsibility to the sector very seriously and are looking to help engender our centres, learners and their clients with the confidence that as things open up their safety will remain paramount.”
